Rights defenders have in the recent past called for the arrest and prosecution of a man in Bulindo-Nsasa, Kira in Wakiso district, accused of beating his wife. The man has been identified as Michael Ssentongo. The woman was reportedly struggling to have her man brought to book, on grounds that her husband is friends with most Police Officers at Kira Division.
This morning, the woman appeared at Kira Division Police. She explained that she was angry when she took the matter to social media. She also told the officers that those on social media blew the matter out of proportion. She explained that each time her husband beat her, he would say, that, even if she reports the matter to the police, nothing will be done to him because he has friends there (at Kira Division). The woman had reportedly registered over 10 cases in the past two years.
Ssentongo summoned
Meanwhile, Ssentongo has been summoned for assault.
A source at Kira Division says the embattled enterpreneur will appear before Detectives at 4pm on Tuesday afternoon.
Deputy Police Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Area, Luke Owoyesigyire told Kampala Gazette that the “matter is being looked into” and that at an appropriate time, he will brief the media.
