A woman has died at a pastor’s home in Pallisa District, where she had gone for prayers to seek healing from an illness.
The deceased, Stella Akurut, 29, a housewife from Owagalye village, Kaboloi parish, had been critically ill and was receiving treatment at a local clinic before her family opted to take her to the home of a local pastor instead of the hospital she was referred to.
According to the Bukedi North Region Police spokesperson, Samuel Semewo, Akurut had been diagnosed with anemia and was advised to go to Pallisa General Hospital for a blood transfusion.
However, her family chose to seek spiritual intervention at the home of Christopher Okupa, a self-proclaimed pastor of Apetete (Akisim) Church. After seven days at Okupa’s home, Akurut’s condition worsened, and she passed away.
The matter was reported to Kameke Police Post, and an investigation has commenced under case file number PAL DEF 017/2024. Her body has been taken to Pallisa General Hospital for a postmortem examination as the police continue their inquiries.
