Pr. Kakande's Church at Kubiri near Mulago

The family of Jonah Moses Kakaire says it has lost hope of getting justice after suspects questioned over his death at Pastor Kakande’s Temple Mount Church in Kubiri were released on police bond.

Kakaire, 28, was working as a chef at the church when he died on October 1, 2026. His body was later transported by Rhino Funeral Services to his ancestral home in Waina, Mayuge District, where he was buried on October 4.

Concerned about the circumstances surrounding his death, Kakaire’s brother returned to Kampala on October 5 and asked police to investigate how his brother had died.

Police subsequently opened a General Enquiry File at Wandegeya Police Station. Investigators have recorded statements from Kakaire’s relatives, some church members and Rhino Funeral Services workers.

CCTV footage from the church was retrieved and reviewed by ICT experts, while Scene of Crime Officers examined the relevant area as part of the investigation.

Several people have been questioned as police work to establish what happened. Preliminary findings indicate that Kakaire may have slipped and fallen into the lift pathway while the lift was moving upwards. The lift is then reported to have returned and struck his head.

Some of those questioned were taken to Wandegeya Police Station but have since been released on police bond as inquiries continue.

A family source said the relatives had lost hope of getting justice.
