Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine
The leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP) and presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, alias Bobi Wine, will be guarded by the Special Forces Command (SFC). The Special Forces Command (SFC) is a specialized unit within the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), headquartered in Entebbe, responsible for high-risk, sensitive missions that require specialized operations at short notice.
Sources say that candidates will be guarded for about 90 days as they canvass for votes around the country ahead of the 2026 general polls next January.
Previously, the candidates were guarded by the anti-terrorism police officers.
However, the Chief of Defense Forces (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, says that “all presidential candidates will be guarded only by SFC.”
This includes Bobi Wine. Over 100 Ugandans have shown interest. However, some may not be able to return the forms given the requirements that come with them.
Once these have moved from aspirants to candidates, the Electoral Commission of Uganda has the mandate to protect the candidates. This includes giving them security.
Gen. Muhoozi says that arrangements outside the SFC will not be allowed.
