News coming in just now indicates that Monsignor Lawrence Mukasa, the Vicar General of Kiyinda Mityana Diocese has been appointed new Bishop of Kasana Luweero Diocese.
The diocese has been under the caretaking of Msgr FX Mpanga, the Vicar General, since Ssemoogerere was appointed as Kampala Archbishop.
The Bishop is appointed by the Pope following consultations at so many layers. The Apostolic nuncio does a thorough background check on the names of persons and then forwards them to the Holy See.
The appointment makes the appointee the 3rd Bishop since the creation of Kasana-Luweero Diocese. First it was the late Archbishop CK Lwanga 1996-2006), Archbishop Ssemogerere (2006-2021). On two occasions the Diocese has been under caretakers; Msgr Kanyerezi & Msgr Mpanga.
