Following the conclusion of the Omoro by-election (in which the NRM retained the seat) on Thursday, the focus now shifts to Soroti City East constituency.
Mid this week, the Court of Appeal nullified the election of Moses Attan (FDC) as the MP for Soroti City East. The judges ordered a by-election on grounds that it was illegal for the Electoral Commission to reconstitute the boundaries of Soroti City East by removing parishes of Aloet and Opilyai and placing them under Soroti City West Constituency.
Soroti is largely an FDC town.
The FDC party says that “we encourage our people to be strong, Soroti will remain blue!”
Section 3 of the Parliamentary Election Act says that a Parliamentary by-election is held within 60 days after the vacancy occurs.
