Author and lawyer, Kakwenza Rukirabashaija, has been rearrested, his lawyer Eron Kiiza of Kiiza & Mugisha Advocates says.
“The military (SFC) that tortured & detained KAKWENZA RUKIRABASHAIJA since 28/12/2022 has re-arrested him from KITALYA MINI MAX PRISON and whisked him off to an unknown SFC DETENTION despite @JudiciaryUG grant of bail earlier, Kiiza tweeted this afternoon.
According to Doreen Nyanjura, the Deputy Kampala Lord Mayor, “A double cabin tented numberless car has kidnapped Kakwenza Rukirabashaija from Kityala Prison!”
Nyanjura is Kakwenza’s colleague at the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).
Earlier, Kakwenza was granted a cash bail of Shs 500, 000 by Buganda Road Court in Kampala.
He faces charges of offensive communication against Lt. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba and President Yoweri Museveni following his tweet in December 2021.
