Kyambogo University: 6 students arrested

By Davis Mugabi

Six students of Kyambogo University have been arrested, Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) says.

According to KMP Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, the said students were arrested Monday morning for inciting violence.

The students reportedly moved class by class chanting “wee – wee”, inciting other students into joining them.

Our independent sources say that the matter came from a recent general assembly that was called off under unclear circumstances. The students had reportedly planned to use the assembly to air out their grievances. These include Shs 50, 000 additional fee on tuition late payment as well as the issue of missing marks.

Against the above background, the six students incited others to join them. However, they were arrested.

Owoyesigyire says that Ben Obyara and Michael Ogwang among others are in police custody and will be charged accordingly.
