Magistrate Gloria Atim
Magistrate Ms. Gloria Atim, who granted Hon. Miria Matembe bail, has been transferred to Kiboga District from Luzira, Nakawa Division in Kampala. Ivan Ssenoga, who granted Timothy Kalyegira bail, has also been moved to Luweero, while another magistrate, William Muwonge, was earlier transferred from Kawempe to Mukono and later Arua after granting bail to 21 NUP supporters in 2025.
The Judiciary is yet to confirm the transfers, though such movements are considered normal. However, lawyer Saasi Marvin questioned the timing and pattern of the changes, saying: “I’m adding this in case someone intends to tell us how the sudden transfers are not disguise punishments. Judicial independence? Which Independence?!”
“I am a simple human being entitled to give justice to all people of Uganda. I owe allegiance to Uganda. I am a judicial officer, a Catholic by religion and aged 45 years. God help me in the decision I am about to deliver,” Atim said before reading her ruling recently.
