For some time, NUP’s Dr. Twaha Kagabo was under the umbrella of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU).

PLU is the idea of the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba. The assumption was that with the PLU agenda, Gen. Muhoozi would vie for the country’s top office.

However, at the weekend, Gen. Muhoozi announced that he will not be on the ballot in 2026 to contest for the presidency. Instead, he back President Yoweri Museveni for another term (2026-2031) as President.

In a media interview on NBS on Tuesday, Kagabo, who is a Member of Parliament for Bukoto South in Lwengo district, said he will join the ruling party.

“Yes. I will join NRM. I am joining a party that has objectives that are close to those of PLU,” said Kagabo.
