Obed Muyombya, the prime suspect in the killing of Ugandan rugby star Gongodyo, has been arrested, this publication has learned. Muyombya, a boda boda rider who was captured on video striking Gongodyo with a log, was reportedly apprehended by members of the public under still unclear circumstances. An exclusive image seen by this publication shows him restrained shortly after the arrest, but details of the exact time and manner of his capture remain scant.

By press time, police had not yet officially confirmed the arrest or provided further information on possible charges. Gongodyo was attacked on Friday in Ntinda, a Kampala city suburb, and sustained severe injuries. He was rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The incident has sparked public outrage and renewed calls for stronger measures against violent crime in the city, as friends, family, and teammates mourn the loss of the talented rugby star.
