The police have in custody a man identified as Richard Toro, a resident of Fort Portal for defrauding an American national of US$ 17, 500.
According to investigators, in March this year, an American identified as Pr. Phillip reached out to Toro and through Western Union sent him US$ 17, 500 to book a tourism destination, sort out local travel, food and accommodation.
This was ahead of his visit to Uganda in July.
On July 14, 2022; the American tourist and his family flew in and headed to Mweya Safari Lodge at the Queen Elizabeth National Park.
However, the tourist was shocked when management of the Safari Lodge impounded his car after one night.
It is against the above background that he realized that he had been cheated.
While he sorted out the matter, he alerted the police who arrested Toro over fraud.
The tourist flew back to the United States on July 27, 2022.
Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga confirmed Toro’s arrest on Monday.
Enanga said that whereas the complainant in the case left the country, the Police has a duty to ensure that Toro is investigated and prosecuted.
