The Uganda Police Force (UPF) has announced plans to recruit 2,500 personnel.

Upon completion of the 12-month-training, the officers will be passed out at the rank of Probationer Police Constable (PPC).

The Force’s Human Resources Director, AIGP Jesse Kamunanwire announced on Tuesday that the deadline for submitting applications is February 18, 2024. Applicants, however, must be between the age of 18 and 23 and must possess a UCE certificate or equivalent with at least four credits including English and at least a pass in Mathematics.

The total Police Force strength currently stands at 52,000 against the population of about 42 million, which translates into a police population ratio of 1:832, as compared to 2022’s ratio of 1:893. The generally accepted police-to-civilian ratio is 1:450, or approximately 225 police officers for every 100 000 people.
