RIP: Ronnie Kayondo.
Kampani Eagles Rugby Club has announced the death of Ronnie Kayondo. Kayondo died from Kampala Hospital on Sunday. He was receiving treatment following an injury he sustained on February 8, 2025, during a Nile Special Rugby Premiership fixture against Buffaloes Rugby at Kyadondo Rugby Club.
“The Uganda Rugby Union, Kampani Eagles and the wider rugby community mourn the loss of this promising young player, who has so much more to offer,” said Adam Kabalega, the Chairman, Kampani Eagles Rugby Club.
Safety of athletes in local sports remains a concern in Uganda.
Last year, Second Assistant Referee Peter Kabugo tragically passed away after collapsing during a match between SC Villa and UPDF at the Wankulukuku Stadium.
