Former Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda has paid glowing tribute to veteran journalist and peace advocate John Oryema Lacambel, describing him as a patriot whose voice became “a beacon of hope” during the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) insurgency in Northern Uganda.
Lacambel, best known for his peace broadcasts on MEGA FM, used his platform to connect abductees and combatants with their families, traditional and religious leaders, political leaders, and the Government, assuring them of security, forgiveness, and reintegration if they returned home.
Rugunda noted that Lacambel’s deep understanding of the conflict, wide network of contacts, and unwavering commitment to peace made an important contribution to progress during the Juba peace talks. He said Uganda owes Lacambel a debt of gratitude for his selfless role in reconciliation, ending the conflict, and restoring peace and stability in Northern Uganda.
Rugunda extended heartfelt condolences to Lacambel’s family, friends, colleagues, and the people of Northern Uganda, and prayed that his soul rests in eternal peace.
