On Thursday, November 23, 2023, the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) recognized the Bishop of Ankole Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. Fred Sheldon Mwesigwa, for instituting a mechanism that ensures tax compliance amongst church projects in 2022/2023 Financial Year.
Ankole Diocese raises PAYE worth Shs 300 Million per year and rental tax worth Shs 20 Million per year, and some of the diocesan projects such as Bishop Stuart University raised PAYE worth Shs 167 Million per month
Others are:
Withholding tax: 10 Million per month (on average)
Millenium SACCO: PAYE: 20.2 Million per month
WHT: 4.5 Million per month (on average)
Ruharo Mission Hospital: PAYE: 34 Million per month
WHT: 5 Million per month (on average): Revival Radio
PAYE: 1.3 Million per month, making a Grand Total per year at Shs 3.2 billion.
Rt. Rev. Assoc. Prof. Rev. Dr. Fred Sheldon Mwesigwa was presented with a certificate under the CG Awards category and a citation that highlighted his significant role in providing leadership to the different church institutions for their tax compliance.
Ankole Diocese was credited for the construction of commercial buildings that contribute to tax and for its contribution of 3.2 billion shillings in the year 2022–2023.
