Xiaomi has launched the REDMI 17 series, the latest generation of its budget smartphone range, with the company placing a 7,500mAh battery and a 6.9-inch display at the centre of the two new models.

The series comprises the REDMI 17 and the REDMI 17 5G. According to Xiaomi, the standard model starts at USD 179 and the 5G version at USD 249.

Xiaomi says the REDMI 17 delivers up to 28 hours of video playback, 91 hours of music playback, 46 hours of calling or 12 hours of video recording on a single charge. For the REDMI 17 5G, the company gives figures of up to 28 hours of 1080p video playback, 109 hours of music playback over Bluetooth earphones, 53 hours of calling or 10 hours of 1080p recording. The company says the figures come from its internal laboratory tests and that actual results may vary.

Both phones support 45W charging and 22.5W wired reverse charging, which allows the handset to charge another compatible device. Xiaomi advises buyers to check with local sellers whether a power adapter is included in the box.

The 6.9-inch display has a resolution of 1600 x 720 pixels and a refresh rate that adjusts between 60Hz, 90Hz and 120Hz depending on use, which Xiaomi says balances smoothness with power efficiency. The company rates typical brightness at 675 nits, rising to 825 nits in high-brightness mode. The screen carries TÜV Rheinland certifications for low blue light, flicker-free performance and circadian-friendly viewing, along with DC dimming.

The display is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 7i, and both models are rated IP64 for dust and splash resistance. Xiaomi’s own guidance states that the phones should not be submerged in water and that liquid damage from immersion is not covered by warranty.

The two models differ mainly in their processors. The REDMI 17 runs on a MediaTek Helio G91-Ultra chip built on a 12nm process with a top speed of 2.0GHz, while the REDMI 17 5G uses a Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 chip built on a 4nm process with a top speed of 2.4GHz and 5G connectivity. Both run Xiaomi HyperOS 3.

The phones come with 4GB or 6GB of RAM. Xiaomi advertises support for up to 12GB, a figure it says is based on the 6GB version combined with a memory extension feature that borrows space from internal storage. Storage can be expanded by up to 2TB with a microSD card, which is sold separately.

On the back is a 50MP main camera with an f/1.8 lens and an auxiliary lens, paired with an 8MP front camera. The phones can record from the front and rear cameras at the same time.

Both handsets have dual stereo speakers with what Xiaomi calls a 300 per cent volume boost. The company’s product notes describe this as 17 volume levels compared with 15. The phones also retain a 3.5mm headphone jack and FM radio, and support NFC in selected markets.

Both models measure 170.12mm by 78.42mm by 8.8mm and weigh 232g. They feature a flat display, a matte frame and a notification light system that Xiaomi calls Dynamic RGB Light, which glows for incoming calls, app alerts, charging, gaming and camera use.

The REDMI 17 comes in Black, Deep Blue, Oak Green and Lotus Purple, in 4GB+128GB, 4GB+256GB, 6GB+128GB and 6GB+256GB configurations. The REDMI 17 5G comes in Black, Deep Blue and Vivid Orange, the last with a PU leather finish, in 4GB+128GB, 4GB+256GB and 6GB+256GB configurations. Xiaomi says colours and configurations may vary by market.

Founded in April 2010, Xiaomi listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in July 2018. The company reported 754.1 million monthly active users on its smartphones and tablets globally in December 2025, and says its products are sold in more than 100 countries and regions. In July 2026, it appeared on the Fortune Global 500 list for the eighth consecutive year, ranking 232nd.
