Panga-wielding thugs have shifted sights to Apartments and Estates, Kampala Gazette has learnt.

So far, two cases have been recorded in Kira and Budo.

In both cases, assorted items were robbed.

Kungu, Kira
This incident happened at 2 am on December 29, 2023. The panga-wielding men attacked an apartment in the area and robbed five tenants (names withheld) of six phones, a laptop, a play station and cash – Shs 3 million.
Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga says that the attackers dropped in through the windows after successfully getting into the gates.

Nakasozi, Budo
On the same day, another armed group attacked an estate in Budo. They robbed 10 phones, a television set and Shs 2 million.

According to Enanga, the thugs are exploiting inefficiencies and ineffectiveness in security at the apartments and estates.

“We shall get the suspects,” Enanga told the media in Kampala on Tuesday.

He, however, apealed to tenants in the apartments and estates to come together and put in additional security measures to enhance their security.

Enanga says that alarms, for example, are effective in scaring away thieves and that they alert the general public as well as security for intervention.
