Police in Bugweri District are investigating a fatal road crash in Nawangisa village along the Mbale–Iganga Highway that left one person dead and 15 others injured.
The accident, which occurred at around 4:45am on July 14, 2026, involved an Isuzu bus, registration number UA551ED, belonging to Amuria High School and transporting 73 students from St. Paul Secondary School Katakwi, and a stationary Mercedes Benz Actros trailer, registration number UBB269V.
The bus driver, 68-year-old Kasakya Abdallah, died on the spot, while 15 students and a teacher were rushed to Iganga General Hospital for treatment. “Preliminary findings indicate that the bus, which was heading from Mbale to Kasenyi Landing Site in Entebbe for a geography tour, crashed into the rear of a stationary trailer,” said ASP Kasadha Micheal, the Busoga East Regional Police Spokesperson.
The deceased’s body was taken to Iganga Hospital mortuary, and both vehicles were towed to Busembatya Police Station for inspection as investigations continue. Kasadha urged all road users to exercise maximum caution to prevent similar tragedies.
