As dust raised at Parliament of Uganda is yet to settle, another report of theft of Shs 51 billion is out.

Sources say that money meant to pay Uganda’s debt at ADB and World Bank was stolen.

Nelson Bwire, the State House online editor said in a post on X on Thursday that ” At least $14m USD meant to pay Uganda’s loan obligations to World Bank and ADB was “stolen” by certain people.”

According to Patrick Andama, an accounting consultant, ”I remember attending an accounting meeting on this same matter at Mofpd and the submission I did was strongly waved off by the current appointed Minister of the same Ministry at that time he was a state Minister..”we know how things run here” was his response.

Currently, the IGG is probing the theft of billions of shillings at Parliament. Senior officials including Director of Communication Chris Obore were arrested on Thursday, and remanded to Luzira.

Uganda’s total public debt stands at UGX 130.9 trillion (approximately $34.86 billion). This equates to a debt-to-GDP ratio of roughly 53%.

The IGG reports that Uganda loses about Shs 10 trillion every year to corruption.
