RIP Moses Matovu
New details have emerged surrounding the death of Afrigo Band musician Moses Matovu, who was allegedly attacked by unknown assailants while heading to a mosque to pray in Kibuli, Kampala. Police at Kabalagala have registered a case of suspected murder involving Matovu, who was attacked on Thursday morning, Sept. 24, 2026, at Kibuli Market Zone B in Makindye Division, Kampala District.
According to details emerging after the incident, Matovu was on his way to the mosque when he was attacked. The circumstances surrounding the assault, including the motive and identity of the assailants, remain unclear. He was rushed to Kibuli Hospital for medical attention but later succumbed to injuries sustained in the attack.
“Our task team is currently at the scene conducting investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident,” police spokesperson Sp. Kawala Racheal said. Kawala said police had begun efforts to identify and apprehend the suspected attackers.
“Efforts are also underway to identify and apprehend the suspected assailants,” she said.
The killing has shocked Uganda’s music industry, where Matovu was regarded as a prominent figure and a member of the celebrated Afrigo Band. Police said investigations were ongoing and that further details would be released as the inquiry progresses.
