LIRA: Headteacher dies of suspected suicide

The territorial police in Lira-City West Division have been shocked by the alleged suicide of the headteacher of Okio Primary School in Aromo Sub-County in Lira District.
This follows a report registered with the police at Lira-City West Division by Bua Moses, aged 41, and a chairperson of the LCI of Anai, Agali Cell, Lira-City.
It’s alleged that on the night of June 24, 2024, at around 0100 hours, Umar Shadick, Headteacher of Okio Primary School in Aromo Sub-County, while sleeping in his house with his wife, only identified as Sharafina, allegedly came out of the house for a short call but never returned until around 0700 hours, when he was discovered dead hanging from a mango tree a few meters away from his house.
A team of police officers from LIRA CITY WEST DIVISION POLICE responded to the scene led by the in-charge homicide together with other police officers.
The body of the deceased was picked and conveyed to LIRA REGIONAL REFERRAL Hospital’s mortuary pending postmortem.
In a statement on Monday, Regional Police Spokesman Jimmy Patrick Okema said, “It’s really a very unfortunate incident, but we are interested in understanding exactly what happened after getting a postmortem report.”
“We call for calmness from the relatives and asked them to be patient and wait for a postmortem report, which will later give us the next course of action,” said Okema.
