Pr. Kakande's Church at Kubiri near Mulago
Seven people have been arrested as police investigate the mysterious death of Kakaire Jonah Moses, a 28-year-old chef at Pastor Kakande’s Temple Mount Church in Kubiri.
Moses died on October 1, 2026, and was quietly buried in Mayuge on October 4. However, the circumstances surrounding his death remained unclear, prompting concerns from his relatives and calls for a formal investigation. On October 5, the deceased’s brother returned to Kampala and asked police to establish the circumstances under which Moses died.
A General Inquiry File was subsequently opened at Wandegeya Police Station. Police have since recorded statements from Moses’ relatives, church members and employees of Rhino Funeral Services.
CCTV footage from the church was retrieved and reviewed by ICT experts, while Scene of Crime Officers examined and processed the relevant area. Several people have been questioned as investigators work to establish what happened. Preliminary findings indicate that Moses may have slipped and fallen into the lift shaft as the lift was moving upwards. The lift allegedly returned and struck his head. Sources said Moses was taken to Mulago City Mortuary without a corresponding police case being registered at the time.
The development has raised further questions about the handling of the incident and the delay in notifying law enforcement. Police have remained tight-lipped about the investigation and have not publicly disclosed the identities of those arrested.
The suspects are being questioned as investigators continue to examine the CCTV footage, witness statements and forensic evidence.
