Dan Alinange
A journalist and lawyer has reminded Dan Alinange of allegations involving him and other officials in the events that contributed to the collapse of the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA).
For several days, Alinange has commented on issues concerning Tooro, particularly the leadership of the kingdom following the death of King Oyo. Although King Edward Nyabongo I has been named the new king, Alinange questioned whether he could effectively manage the palace.
Alinange reportedly said the “UBC man” could not afford to slash and maintain the palace compound. His remarks drew a response from Stephen Don Kafeero, an accomplished journalist and youthful lawyer, who reminded Alinange of corruption allegations linked to his time at UNRA.

“Anyone undermining the contribution of Queen Best is a devil. That UBC King might not even have money to slush that compound,” Alinange said.
“Lay low like the envelope you are. You and your colleagues laid the foundation for the collapse of UNRA!” Kafeero responded.
Alinange previously served as head of corporate communications and spokesperson for UNRA before the authority was rationalized and its functions returned to the Ministry of Works and Transport.
After leaving UNRA, Alinange faced legal challenges related to his tenure at the authority. The Anti-Corruption Court charged him with corruption and abuse of office over alleged irregularities surrounding the groundbreaking ceremony for the Kampala Northern Bypass Road.
He was accused of fraudulently obtaining financial benefits by allegedly convincing contractor Mota-Engil to channel money to his private company, Ak Communications Ltd. Prosecutors reportedly alleged that he requested Shs32 million from the company.
In 2021, Alinange was summoned in connection with the corruption allegations, arrested and remanded. He denied the accusations and was later released on bail. The allegations remain claims, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a competent court.
