Police at Kira Road are holding three suspects – Ssebagala Noordin, Ayebazibwe Roden, and Namukose Juliet – over the death of professional rugby player Sydney Gongodyo, who died at Mulago Hospital on 5 June 2026 after an alleged mob beating over a claimed handbag theft.
The incident is under active investigation, with the suspects in custody assisting police.
The Uganda Police Force has strongly condemned mob justice, urging the public to report suspected crimes to authorities instead of taking the law into their own hands, warning that such actions undermine the rule of law and risk killing innocent people.
