RIP: Mulindwa
A Uganda Red Cross Society (URCS) driver, Ismael Mulindwa, has died nearly a month after receiving treatment following his deployment to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to support the Ebola response.
URCS Secretary General Naphtal Baguma said Mulindwa died after almost a month of treatment. “Yesterday, I joined staff, volunteers, partners, family & the community of Kabimbiri to send off our colleague, Ismael Mulindwa. Ismael died after almost a month of treatment. He was responding to Ebola in the DRC when the Red Cross team was attacked.”
URCS spokesperson Irene Nakasiita said Mulindwa was buried in Kabimbiri, off Kayunga Road, and described him as a dedicated worker who touched lives and built lasting relationships in the communities he served.
“Yesterday, we laid our brother, colleague and friend, Ismael Mulindwa, to rest in Kabimbiri, off Kayunga Road. Ismael served with dedication, touched lives, built lasting friendships and made a meaningful impact in the communities he served. Beyond his work, he was a leader in his family—the heir to his late father, who took responsibility for raising his siblings and was remembered as a peacemaker who reconciled and brought family members together. He loved his children deeply and leaves behind a legacy of service, love and devotion. Through his work with the ambulance services, Ismael helped save and preserve many lives. His contribution to the Uganda Red Cross Society and to the communities he served will not be forgotten. We will forever miss you, bro. We cherish your devotion, your hard work and the lives you touched,” said Nakasiita.
Mulindwa’s death comes slightly more than a month after Uganda was declared Ebola-free by the World Health Organization (WHO), following the country’s response to the outbreak.
