The Commissioner General of the Uganda Revenue Authority has mourned a field staff member who died in a road crash while pursuing a vehicle suspected of transporting smuggled motor vehicle tyres in Magamaga.

Ronald Wabomba died on Saturday after the vehicle in which he was travelling was knocked over at Buwanga Village.

Wabomba was reportedly pursuing a Toyota Nadia, registration number UBA 470A, which was carrying smuggled motor vehicle tyres from Busia along the Busia-Mayuge-Musita Road. The driver of the vehicle eventually stopped, parked, before the driver attempted to flee from the co-driver’s seat. However, he was intercepted and arrested.

While Wabomba was engaging the driver, an Isuzu truck, registration number KDS 499D rammed into them, leaving them with serious injuries.

Wabomba was rushed to a nearby health facility for medical attention as efforts were made to save his life. However, he was pronounced dead on arrival at International Hospital Kampala, where he had been transferred for further treatment.

The incident has left the Uganda Revenue Authority mourning his loss.

‘’It’s a sad day for URA as we have lost one of ours in the line of duty. Our HR office is in touch with the family,’’ said URA CG John Musinguzi.

By press time, the Toyota Nadia and the Isuzu truck were parked at Magamaga Police Station as further investigations into the crash continue.
