Ivonne A-Baki
The race for the next Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) has attracted a ninth candidate.
The candidate is Ivonne A-Baki of the Kingdom of Tonga.
She becomes the ninth candidate in the race.
The current United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, will finish his second and final five-year term on December 31, 2026. His tenure ends after a full decade in office, and the selection process to choose his successor is actively underway.
The eight official candidates are:
