Doreen Nyanjura
With the update of the national voters register on course, everything else is building up ahead of the 2026 general polls.
For a long time, Deputy Lord Mayor Doreen Nyanjura has been representing Makerere University as LCV Woman Councilor. Also known as the FDC preacher, Nyanjura appears to have outgrown the seat.
Now, reports are that she intends to contest as the Member of Parliament for Mwenge Central in Kyenjojo district. Tourism Minister Tom Butime is the incumbent.
Nyanjura has not commented on the matter yet. However, her posters are already making rounds over the social media. The deputy lord mayor has not protested or denied knowledge about the posters. It is not clear if Butime will seek re-election.
Should the two appear on the same ballot paper, it will be interesting to see who takes the seat. Nyanjura, 35, a holder of a master’s in gender studies from Makerere University, represents the young people, while Butime is in his mid-70s.
