President Yoweri Museveni and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba appear to disagree on the fate of former Speaker of Parliament Anita Among.

Weeks ago, security operatives—reportedly acting on the authority of the CDF—raided her properties, impounded several vehicles, and seized cash as part of an investigation into the source of her wealth.

While sources say prosecutors are ready to present her in court, Museveni is said to be reluctant, reportedly arguing that the raids, asset seizures, and her period under house arrest are punishment enough and should serve as a warning to other corrupt public officials.

He is understood to favour lifting her house arrest and returning her vehicles.

Insiders say Gen Muhoozi is unhappy with the President’s stance and would have preferred to see Among prosecuted and possibly jailed in Luzira.

Museveni is reported to have met Among last weekend, though details of their discussion remain unclear.

Questions also linger over when and how she will re-emerge in public life: notably, she was absent from the State of the Nation Address at Kololo on Thursday, fueling speculation about her political future.
