ACP Emitu
At the Police Training School in Kabalye, Masindi, the usual formalities gave way to an unmistakable burst of energy on Friday when more than 5,000 probationer police constables gathered for their pass-out ceremony. But it was the mention of ACP Ezekiel Emitu’s name that truly lifted the mood.
The applause came fast and loud — thunderous handclaps, stamping feet, and nodding heads — so intense that MC of the day, ACP Rusoke Kituuma, paused in surprise before joking, “Have I missed something?” He gave the PPCs a few moments to properly welcome the man who, until recently, had served as commandant of the school before being reassigned as Kampala Metropolitan Police Commandant.
The welcome was unlike anything else at the event.
So overwhelming was the reception that Rusoke eventually invited Emitu to the podium to wave to the crowd, a gesture reserved for someone clearly held in high regard. “He has earned his flowers,” Rusoke said, as the ceremony — graced by President Museveni as chief guest — continued with nearly 10,000 PPCs passing out.
