A police officer was shot and killed this afternoon at the Naguru Police Barracks in a suspected case of murder involving fellow officers.
The deceased, identified as Police Constable (PC) Muhangi Arthur, is reported to have been shot by a colleague, PC Natujuna Everest. The incident has sent shockwaves through the police community and the public, raising serious concerns about security and internal discipline within the force.
According to police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma, preliminary reports indicate that the shooting occurred inside the barracks under circumstances that are still being investigated. “We are treating this as a suspected murder. The suspect, PC Natujuna Everest, is currently on the run,” said Kituuma.
Authorities say Natujuna fled the scene immediately after the shooting, abandoning the firearm allegedly used in the crime. Police have since launched a manhunt to apprehend the suspect and are appealing to the public for any information that could lead to his arrest.
“The motive for the shooting remains unclear at this stage. Investigations are ongoing, and we urge calm as we work to establish the full circumstances surrounding this tragic event,” Kituuma added.
The body of the deceased officer has been taken for post-mortem examination as part of the ongoing investigation.
