A section of Ugandans on social media has petitioned the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) over remarks made by vlogger Kasuku about the widow of slain rugby star, Sydney Gongodyo. Gongodyo was reportedly attacked and killed on Friday in Ntinda, leaving behind a grieving family.

During a YouTube broadcast on Tuesday, Kasuku claimed that Gongodyo’s widow would not suffer because she is “hot” and suggested that someone would “snatch her away from the jaws of loss,” comments that sparked public anger and accusations of sexism and insensitivity.

Outraged Ugandans are now calling on the UCC to investigate and punish Kasuku, arguing that his remarks amount to objectification and a violation of the widow’s basic human rights and dignity. On X, a user identified as PK Snr condemned the comments as “unnecessary” and “offensive,” accusing Kasuku of breaching journalistic ethics, including standards of decency, fairness, sensitivity, privacy, and responsibility. Some critics have also faulted journalist Gabriel Buule for allegedly “re-packaging” the tragic story in a sensational manner. The petitioners insist that anyone operating in the media space, whether a journalist or not, should adhere to minimum ethical standards, and they have urged the UCC to treat the matter with utmost seriousness.
