Kampala—Security operatives, in collaboration with the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) intelligence team, have arrested a man identified as Thomas Odeke for allegedly impersonating the URA Commissioner General, Commissioners of Domestic Taxes and Customs, and various tax officers.

Assistant Commissioner for Public and Corporate Affairs at URA, Robert Kalumba, confirmed Odeke’s arrest. According to Kalumba, Odeke had a pattern of introducing himself as URA Commissioner General John Musinguzi, and on other occasions as either Commissioner of Domestic Taxes, Commissioner of Customs, or a tax officer. His impersonation activities reportedly spanned several locations and interactions with members of the public.

Acting on a tip-off, security officials apprehended Odeke on Monday. He was reportedly driving a vehicle with registration number UA541DM at the time of his arrest. Odeke has since been handed over to police for further investigations.

Kalumba urged taxpayers to report any suspicious individuals to the URA via the toll-free number 0800257700, and warned against sending tax payments to personal phone numbers, emphasizing that all tax payments should be made through designated banks.
