Malaba Enforcement Team Seizes 80 Smuggled Used Computers
A pre-dawn enforcement operation at the Malaba border led to the recovery of 80 smuggled used computers after officers intercepted a group of motorcyclists attempting to move the consignment into Uganda through the Nile B panya route.
According to the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), intelligence received on the night of 31 July 2026 indicated that five motorcyclists were planning to smuggle the computers into the country at around 3:00 a.m.
The Malaba Enforcement Team positioned itself along the suspected route and intercepted the lead motorcyclist. The remaining riders turned back and returned the consignment to a nearby storage facility.
On 1 August 2026, follow-up intelligence identified the location where the computers had been hidden, prompting a second operation that led to their recovery. Verification confirmed that the consignment consisted of 80 used computer monitors.
URA noted that under the East African Community Customs Management Act (EACMA), the importation of used computers is prohibited.
