Wava's cars on display

At the ongoing Kampala Auto Show, Sir Gordon Wavamunno has once again proven that his love for vintage cars goes far beyond business or display.

Known as a prominent Ugandan entrepreneur, philanthropist, and founder and chairman of the Spear Group of Companies, Wavamunno has three of his treasured vintage cars on exhibition — but he has made one thing very clear: “Don’t touch it.”

Two of Wava’s vintage cars on display at the auto show on Friday. The auto show ends on Sunday, July 19, 2026.

The warning has not stopped the crowd from gathering around the cars, with visitors eager to admire the rare machines, take photos, and, in some cases, step inside for a closer feel of the ride. But to Wavamunno, whose passion for the classics appears to be deeply personal, such curiosity is not welcome. His vintage collection is being treated with unusual care, and even the attendants handling the vehicles were not allowed to drive them to the red carpet. Instead, they had to roll the cars into place, underscoring just how strictly their movement is being controlled.

The scene has added an extra layer of intrigue to the auto show, where the cars have become as much a subject of fascination for their owner’s protective stance as for their elegance and rarity. For many attendees, the display offers a glimpse into the mindset of a collector who values preservation over showmanship. Wavamunno’s message is simple and unmistakable: these vintage cars are to be admired, but not touched.
