Embattled Victoria University Vice Chancellor Dr. Lawrence Muganga is set to appear on Rwanda’s The Long Form Podcast this Monday, June 8, 2026, amid ongoing controversy surrounding his citizenship and recent failed ministerial appointment. Muganga has been at the center of public debate since his nomination as Uganda’s Minister of State for Internal Affairs, a process that unraveled after questions emerged about his nationality.

While he acknowledged holding a Canadian passport and said he had begun the process of renouncing that citizenship, he firmly denied being a Rwandan citizen. Members of Parliament’s appointments committee, however, were not convinced, particularly on the issue of his alleged Rwandan citizenship, and ultimately rejected his appointment. On the podcast, Muganga is expected to confront some of the most contentious aspects of his public life and broader issues affecting Ugandan society.
The conversation will explore identity and belonging in Uganda, including why some Ugandan Banyarwanda feel invisible, as well as revisit his past arrest on allegations of espionage. It will also delve into the future of higher education, questioning whether universities are adequately preparing young people for a rapidly changing world and whether advances in artificial intelligence could render traditional degrees obsolete. “This is a conversation about identity, power, education, and what it means to belong,” said host Sanny Ntayombya, setting the stage for what many expect to be a closely watched and potentially polarizing interview.
