The Inspectorate of Government has directed the Lira City Clerk to interdict the Lira City Statistician, Mr. Denis Okello Ayini, pending the outcome of a criminal case against him. Mr. Ayini was recently arraigned before the Chief Magistrate’s Court under Criminal Case No. 407/2026 on charges of uttering forged documents, contrary to sections 328 and 324 of the Penal Code Act.
According to the Inspectorate, the directive is grounded in Article 230(2) of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda and Section 13(6) of the Inspectorate of Government Act, which empower the Inspector General to issue orders and directions as necessary in the public interest. The IG stated that it is prudent for Mr. Ayini to step aside from executing the powers and functions of his office while the matter is before court.
