Police in North Kyoga Region have confirmed a serious road crash that occurred on Saturday, 4 July 2026, at around 8:00 p.m. at Bongcao Center along the Lira-Aduku highway in Lira City West Division.
According to the statement, the crash involved a Fuso fighter lorry, registration UBK 662J, and an Isuzu bus, registration UAK 482G, belonging to Gulu University.
Police say the lorry was reportedly carrying market vendors from the Aduku market side toward Lira City at high speed when the bus, returning from a traditional marriage in the Boke area, joined the highway from a feeder road and collided with it. Seventeen people were injured and were rushed to Lira Referral Hospital and Lira Midtown Clinic; most have since been discharged.
Regional Police Spokesman Patrick J. Okema said the scene was visited by traffic police, and that both vehicles were towed to the Lira City West Division parking yard pending inspection.
