The slaughtered dogs were recovered from the suspects.

Police in Mityana have rescued 48 dogs and arrested three suspects in an intelligence-led operation targeting illegal dog care houses in Kansuleti, Kasimbi, and Bamunanika in Busimbi Division, Mityana Municipality. The facilities had become a major public concern after reports of cruelty, with some dogs found with broken limbs, cut-off tails, signs of severe malnourishment, and no vaccination records, posing a danger to the public in case of escape.

“We advise all genuine animal lovers who wish to care for stray dogs to first go through the requisite legal formalities before taking on such a venture in our communities,” said SSP L. Kigozi, PRO Wamala Region.

The rescued dogs have been handed over to Animal Lifeline Uganda, a registered NGO with a holding ground in Kateete Cell, Kireku Ward, where they will be vaccinated and their breeding controlled in coordination with the District Veterinary Officer before being opened up for public adoption.

The three suspects are expected to be arraigned in court on charges related to cruelty to animals and any additional offences as the Resident State Attorney may advise.
