A police officer attached to the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) has died following a fatal road crash at Getom Police Checkpoint in Katakwi District.
The accident occurred on Saturday, February 15, 2026, at around 8:30 p.m., according to a statement issued by IP Mike Longole, the Public Relations Officer for MT Moroto/ASTU.
The deceased has been identified as No. 78330 Police Constable Kilobi Enock, aged 24.
Preliminary police findings indicate that a speeding Toyota Mark X, registration number UBR 151S, traveling from the Soroti direction, lost control before ramming into a checkpoint signpost and knocking down PC Kilobi, who died on the spot.
An election Special Police Constable (SPC) who was riding a boda boda at the checkpoint sustained injuries and was rushed to Katakwi Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
The driver of the Mark X survived the crash and has been arrested and taken into custody to aid investigations.
The body of the deceased officer has been conveyed to Katakwi Hospital Mortuary pending a postmortem examination.
Police say investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
The ASTU leadership has extended condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of PC Kilobi Enock, describing his death as a great loss to the force.
