The Uganda Union Mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church has appealed to members to remain calm as it engages government over the National Cleaning Days directive, saying the proposal affects Sabbath worship.
In a July 24, 2026 letter addressed to “The Seventh-day Adventist Community,” President Pr. Kajoba Samuel said the church supports a clean environment but remains committed to the sanctity of the Seventh-day Sabbath.
“Many of you are aware of the Government directive concerning the National Cleaning Days, which, when implemented as communicated, affects our Sabbath worship,” the letter says. It adds that church leadership is seeking “an amicable solution” and has proposed that members participate “on either Friday or Sunday,” while urging believers to stay prayerful and united.
