Kampala, August 17, 2025 – Security agencies have stepped up deployments in and around Namboole Stadium ahead of the highly anticipated clash between Uganda Cranes and South Africa scheduled for tomorrow, August 18.
According to SSP Patrick Onyango, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, the security measures are intended to guarantee a safe and successful match.
Fake Tickets Alert
Authorities have received intelligence about fake match tickets circulating among unsuspecting fans. Some genuine tickets have reportedly been duplicated and sold to multiple buyers, raising fears of chaos at entry points.
“We warn the public not to buy tickets today or tomorrow, as these could be counterfeit. Only the first person to enter with a duplicated ticket will be allowed in. The rest will be rejected by the machine,” Onyango said.
Fan Zones Established
For fans unable to access genuine tickets, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has designated three official fan zones with big screens where the public can safely watch the match. These include:
- King’s Park Bweyogerere
- Kyadondo Rugby Club
- Masindi
Heavy Security Presence
Police and other security organs will conduct thorough searches at all stadium access points to prevent breaches. In addition, a strong security presence will be maintained along major roads leading to Namboole.
Onyango encouraged fans without tickets to make use of the fan zones for a safe and enjoyable experience.
“Our deployments are in place to secure the match. We call upon the public to cooperate with security personnel, remain vigilant, and avoid dealing with fraudsters,” he added.
