2025 opened in a rather sad situation for Uganda as a country and the families of the persons the country lost in January 2025.
Politicians, an army officer, a medical officer and a journalists lost their lives under different circumstances in the month that ebded on Friday.
These are: Dr. Wildred Olila, Risdel Kasasira, Brig. Gen. Charles Oluk, Margaret Komuhangi, Margaret Baba Diri and Muhammad Ssegirinya all passed on in January.
Dr. Olila
An ENT specialist and a lecturer at Soroti Uiversity was killed by unknown persons and body dragged from Lira and dumped in Otuboi in the eastern region of the country. Six people have so far been arrested in connection to the brutal murder, the Lira RCC Lawrence Egole said recently.
Komuhangi
The former Nakasongola District Woman MP died in India after a long illness.
Baba Diri
The former Koboko Woman MP died after a very short illness in Kampala.
She was a politician, teacher and activist.
Muhammad Ssegirinya
Ssegirinya was the Member of Parliament for Kawempe North. He died in January after a long time in and out of the hospital.
Ignatius Besisira
Besisira was the former MP for Buyaga County. He, too, passed on in January.
Brig. Gen. Charles Oluka
Oluka died in the last week of January. This followed a short illness. The deceased was the Director General of Uganda’s Internal Security Organisation (ISO).
These are just a few prominent persons captured.
In 2022, Uganda’s crude death rate was 5.579% per 1,000 people. The crude death rate is the number of deaths in a year divided by the total population, multiplied by 1,000.
This means that on average, 5.579 people out of every 1,000 people in Uganda died in 2022.
In the Bible, death is a result of sin, but it is not the end. Instead, it is a transition to a new life with God.
