Sam Engola. Engola is a former Member of Parliament, Erute South and former Minister of State for Housing.
Politicians subscribing to the ruling NRM party have started formally showing interest in the different seats within the party.
Once elected within the party structures, these candidates will have the opportunity to hold the NRM flag in the 2026 general elections.
However, these candidates are deploying all the means to see to it that they get the tickets.
Veteran Lango politicians Sam Engola and a younger George Abdul have not been spared. The two are expected to face off for the NRM MP flag for Erute South in Lira district.
In a radio interview last week, Engola spilled Abdul’s secrets.
“Abdul said I never helped him. I took Abdul and 3 others to Kampala. He slept at my house, and later I took him to the president,” said Engola, as quoted by QFM. “Abdul had forged academic documents. He even went as far as reducing his age in order to contest for Northern Uganda Youth MP. I have all the documents in my car.”
It is not clear if the two candidates already picked forms.
If they do, they have a huge task to battle Jonathan Odur (UPC), the incumbent in the next polls.
