Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba
Masaka—Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) patron, has issued a pointed warning to Masaka City Woman MP-elect Justine Nameere, amid rising tensions over loyalty in the forthcoming speakership race.
The dispute follows PLU Secretary General Daudi Kabanda’s recent withdrawal of support for Speaker Anita Among, acting on Gen Muhoozi’s directive. Nameere, seen as an ally of Among, publicly clashed with Kabanda over the decision, reportedly taking Kabanda’s move as a personal affront.
In a statement released this morning, Gen Muhoozi advised, “I advise some ladies to steer clear of some of these issues. It doesn’t matter how many times Mzee calls you. That doesn’t make you amount to anything! I remember Winnie Karagwa being as excited as some of you in 1986.”
The remarks have added fuel to the ongoing speakership debate, highlighting the internal rifts within the PLU and the high stakes ahead of the 12th Parliament’s leadership contest.
Observers say the incident underscores the shifting alliances and heightened political maneuvering among Uganda’s top political circles as Parliament prepares to elect its new Speaker.
