The Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) has reported that a suspected vandal was electrocuted while attempting to climb a high-voltage transmission tower along the Owen Falls–Lugazi transmission line in Lugazi.
In a statement, UETCL said the incident occurred as the individual allegedly tried to access the electricity infrastructure, which carries high-voltage current.
According to the company, the body of the suspected vandal remains suspended on the tower as arrangements are being made for a technical team to safely retrieve it.
The matter has since been handed over to the Uganda Police Force for further investigation.
UETCL warned members of the public against vandalising or attempting to access electricity transmission infrastructure, noting that such installations carry extremely dangerous currents that can result in serious injury or death.
The company also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected acts of vandalism to the nearest police station.
“Vandalism not only interrupts power supply but also poses a serious danger to human life,” UETCL said.
