MENGO | November 13, 2025 — The Mengo Chief Magistrate’s Court has remanded nine teachers accused of engaging in examination malpractice related to the ongoing Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) 2025.
The suspects, all teachers from various schools across the country, appeared before Chief Magistrate His Worship Adams Byarugaba on Thursday. Court heard that between November 3rd and 4th, 2025, the teachers allegedly formed a WhatsApp group where they shared unauthorised examination materials purported to be PLE papers issued by the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB).
Prosecution told court that the suspects’ actions contravened Section 25 of the UNEB Act, CAP 259, which criminalizes the possession of any unauthorised examination material or information — whether genuine or not.
Under the law, any person found in possession of or distributing unauthorised examination content commits an offence and is liable to imprisonment or fines upon conviction.
The nine suspects were subsequently remanded to Luzira Prison until their next court appearance as investigations continue.
UNEB has repeatedly cautioned the public, especially teachers and school administrators, against engaging in exam malpractice, warning that the Board has intensified its surveillance and digital monitoring to curb such offenses during the national examinations season.
