Deputy Speaker of the 11th Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, has downplayed speculation that he is positioning himself to run for Speaker of the 12th Parliament, where his current boss, Speaker Anita Among, is seeking re-election alongside Norbert Mao and others.
Rumours intensified after CDF Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba delegated Tayebwa to represent him at the MK Run, and further escalated amid public outrage over Among’s reported acquisition of a Rolls-Royce worth nearly Shs 5 billion, which has fuelled allegations of corruption and extravagance. In a post on X on Monday, Tayebwa insisted he is “not obsessed with titles” but with meaningful contribution.
“I’m proud to have stood in for someone I admire and believe, someone who sacrifices more than any one of us to have a peaceful and secure country,” he wrote, praising Muhoozi as a friend and brother who, if given the opportunity, “would take our beautiful country to another level.”
