Lira City Woman Member of Parliament, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, has urged her voters to vote wisely in the 2026 Parliamentary Polls. Dr. Aceng is also the health minister. During a gathering in Lira on Saturday, Dr. Aceng appealed to voters to welcome her opponents but vote wisely.
“There are people bringing you money to eat. Money that has accumulated for the last 5 terms in Parliament, those are 25 years. What have they done in Lango with the money? Please eat their money when they come. Don’t accept little money; eat their money, but then you vote wisely,” Dr. Aceng said without mentioning names.
Gender Minister Betty Amongi of the UPC intends to contest against Dr. Aceng. Amongi is currently the MP representing the people of Oyam South.
Internal Affairs Minister Maj Gen Kahinda Otafiire accompanied Dr. Aceng to the gathering.
“UPC is very ungrateful. You were busy starving; we invited you to our table, we gave you a piece of the cake, you ate yours very fast, and now you want to eat even ours. Don’t you think that’s unfair? That’s unacceptable!” said Otafiire.
